What is Clinker?
Portland cement is a finely divided substance characterized by its gray coloration. Cement is produced through the precise blending and grinding of raw materials, typically comprising limestone, clay, and a certain amount of aluminum and iron oxide, as necessary, to achieve the desired chemical composition.
The resultant raw material mixture, referred to as raw meal, undergoes calcination in a rotary kiln at temperatures reaching approximately 1450ºC. As the raw meal particles progress toward the kiln outlet, the particles begin to melt and undergo various chemical reactions, resulting in the formation of pellets, called clinker, in a granulated state.
Subsequently, this clinker is fine-ground with a controlled addition of calcium sulfate (gypsum) to produce Portland cement.
